Tradional Thailand
Traditional Thailand is a collection of 29 traditional occupations and skills in Thailand, all of them typical in one way or another of the Thai way of life.  For a variety of reasons-such as modernization-many of these lifestyles are disappearing. Traditional Thailand offers glimpses into some of the traditional activities of Asia's most fascinating country.

Denis Segaller

Denis Segaller is an Englishman. Born in London in 1915, he studied physics at London University, obtaining his B.Sc. degree in 1935. He later found his metier in making documentary films, a quite new concept in the 1930s. During World War 2 he made official government training films on radar for Britain's RAF, and in 1945 he joined the Shell Film Unit in London, where he remained for the next 20 years as a director and producer of documentary, scientific and educational films.

In 1965 Denis came to Bangkok — his first visit to Asia — as a film consultant. He has remained in Bangkok ever since. Denis is now a staff writer and sub-editor at the Bangkok Post and Bangkok World. He became a Buddhist, spent a month in the monkhood in a temple just outside Bangkok, and meditates regularly every day.

His regular weekly column, "Thai Ways", has been running in the Bangkok World since 1975, and selections are now on sale in book form in Bangkok under the same title, published by Thai Airways International. Denis has also written several articles for Sawasdee magazine and other publications.
